Julianne Miller
January 9th - February 10th 2010

Julianne Miller attended Central Art Academy in Cincinnati, Ohio. After working in the commercial art field for many years, she providentially was given some pastels by her mother at her passing and found a passion and love that would stay for a lifetime. "I stand at the easel and paint I can let all the stresses and anxieties of my life go for a short time." She has been painting with pastels for about eight years, mixing it up with landscapes, urban scenes, and some portraiture.
Julianne Miller's award winning pastels evoke feelings that could be described as peaceful or tranquil. I attempt to paint a scene, capturing a light, shadow, color or quiet that can take you into a moment frozen in time.
"I once read a quote," Art is not what you see, but what you make others see." That statement brought back numerous memories of people telling me how a painting made them feel or what memory it held for them. It once again made me realize how fortunate it is, if I paint an old barn or a meandering path leading to a distant point, while that painting may hold a particular meaning for me it is also many others memories or dreams captured in a painting.
The Paquette Gallery is named in honor of Dr. Frederick R. Paquette, 1939 - 2004. Dr. Paquette was born in Salida and he had deep roots in Chaffee County. He watched and marveled at Salida's evolution into a small mountain town of great diversity. A humble man who loved and enjoyed life and all it offered. His was a life of service, caring and giving. The Friends of the SteamPlant sponsor artists' exhibits in the Paquette Art Gallery. For more information, contact The SteamPlant at 719-530-0933.
