Colorado Mountain College’s 2026 Common Reader program features Go as a River by fifth-generation Colorado author Shelley Read.

Set in rural Colorado during the mid-20th century, this award-winning historical novel follows Victoria “Torie” Nash as she navigates love, loss, resilience, and finding home amid profound change, including the creation of Blue Mesa Reservoir and the flooding of the town of Iola.

As part of CMC’s Common Reader program, Shelley Read will visit CMC communities October 19–27 for a series of author talks and conversations celebrating the book and Colorado’s 150th anniversary.
